Jaguars' Telvin Smith fined for concussion-inducing hit on Andre Johnson
The NFL announced Friday that Jacksonville Jaguars rookie linebacker Telvin Smith was fined $22,050 for a hit that knocked wide receiver Andre Johnson of the Houston Texans out of last Sunday's game.
Johnson's helmet was knocked off by the hit, which came early in the second quarter of the Jaguars' 27-13 loss. Though he walked off the field under his own power, Johnson never returned to the game and has yet to be cleared by the league's concussion protocol.
Smith, a fifth-round pick out of Florida State who has started seven of the last nine games, was penalized on the play for a personal foul. The call kept alive a drive that led to the Texans' first touchdown.
