What was heavily rumored last week was made official on Monday: Peja Stojakovic is the newest Dallas Maverick.
Mavs owner Mark Cuban confirmed the signing, tweeting "Peja is now a Mav ! Time to let him drop some of those 3s on the bad guys."
To free up a roster spot, Mavs backup center Alexis Ajinca was traded to Toronto along with a future second-round pick in exchange for Georgios Printezis, who plays overseas and is unlikely to play in the NBA.
Stojakovic, 33, was traded from New Orleans to Toronto on Nov. 21 in a multi-player deal but was waived after he played in just two games for the Raptors due to knee problems. His best game came against Dallas on Nov. 15 when he scored 17 points, including four three-pointers.
For his career, Stojakovic has averaged 17.1 points and shot 40.1 percent from three-point range. He was a key part of the Sacramento Kings squad that the Mavericks played in three consecutive playoffs from 2002 to 2004, and he averaged 20.7 points in 15 postseason contests against Dallas.
