Irving to miss shootaround for further tests on knee
The Cleveland Cavaliers held Kyrie Irving out of a Friday morning shootaround, leaving the All-Star point guard's status for Friday night's Game Two of the Eastern Conference Finals in question.
Irving has been playing through left knee tendinitis and a right foot strain since the first round of the playoffs. He declared himself ready to play earlier this week after being limited to 12 minutes when the Cavs clinched their semifinal series against the Bulls.
Irving played 27 minutes and scored 10 points in Game One vs. the Atlanta Hawks but looked to be in pain for much of it.
The team wasn't secretive about holding Irving out of shootaround. It sent out a standard press release that said the absence is related to the knee and that Irving needs additional evaluation by lead team physician Dr. Richard Parker.
"After continuing his treatment following Wednesday night's game, symptoms related to his left knee tendinitis had not diminished and additional evaluation was recommended. He will be listed as Questionable for tonight's game," the team's statement said.
The Hawks also have a star whose status remains in question for Game Two. DeMarre Carroll suffered a knee sprain in Game One.
Game Two tips off at 8:30 p.m. ET Friday.
