Injured seamer Nuwan Pradeep out of Australia series
COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) Sri Lanka seam bowler Nuwan Pradeep will miss the remaining one-day internationals against Australia after aggravating a hamstring injury.
Instead of bringing in another seamer, selectors opted Tuesday for batsman Angelo Perera - who also bowls left-arm spin - after impressing for Sri Lanka ''A'' on the recent tour to England.
Pradeep played in the first test of the three-match series before sustaining the injury. He was fit for the opening ODI against Australia on Sunday but was injured in training just before the toss. Australia won by three wickets.
Perera has played in three ODIs and two Twenty20 internationals for Sri Lanka without much success but has a good first-class limited-overs record with 1,992 runs in 97 matches and an average of 36.21 runs.
He averaged more than 56 in the recent tri-nation series in England, also involving the Pakistan ''A'' side.
Sri Lanka and Australia play the second ODI in Colombo on Wednesday.
Sri Lanka, which swept the test series 3-0, has often relied on spin bowling against Australia and Perera's inclusion gives captain Angelo Mathews another option.
Australia leads the five-match ODI series 1-0.
