CLEVELAND (AP) -- The Cleveland Indians have agreed to terms with starter Jon Garland on a minor league contract.

Garland, who had shoulder surgery in July, will take a physical in the next week at the Indians' complex in Goodyear, Ariz. If he passes, he'll sign with the Indians and have a chance to make the club's rotation in training camp.

The 32-year-old went 1-5 with a 4.33 ERA and made nine starts for the Dodgers last season. He won 14 games for San Diego in 2010. The right-hander has won at least 12 games seven times and had two 18-win seasons for the White Sox.

The Indians have an opening with the pitcher known as Fausto Carmona on baseball's restricted list as he faces false identity charges in the Dominican Republic.
