Indians draw second-lowest attendance in Progressive Field history
CLEVELAND -- For those watching Tuesday's Indians-Royals game, it might have brought back memories of when the Tribe played at old Municipal Stadium but for all the wrong reasons.
The Indians announced the attendance as 8,848, which is the second lowest in 21 seasons at Progressive Field. The low-water mark remains 8,726 for an April 3, 2011, game against the White Sox. That figure could be in jeopardy, especially with a Thursday game that has a noon start.
After 10 home dates, the Indians are averaging a Major League-worst 15,037.The White Sox are the second-worst, averaging 16,960 while Miami, which has been considered to have attendance issues, is averaging 21,865.
Since selling out the home opener against the Twins, the largest Indians' home crowd was 16,335 for last Friday's game against the Blue Jays, which started a seven-game homestand. Through 10 home games last season, the Indians were averaging 14,513.
