Indians' Bourn set to go on disabled list
CLEVELAND (AP) -- Indians center fielder Michael Bourn will be placed on the 15-day disabled list in the coming days as he recovers from a cut finger.
Bourn needed five stitches to close a gash sustained when dived into first on Sunday. Bourn has a large splint on his right index finger and will miss more than a week once he goes on the DL.
Manager Terry Francona said the team is "keeping our options" open before they decide when to put Bourn on the DL. The team wants to make sure left-hander Scott Kazmir (strained rib cage) can start Saturday before making a move with Bourn.
Also, second baseman Jason Kipnis missed his third straight game with a sore left elbow.
The Indians recalled infielder Cord Phelps from Triple-A Columbus and optioned catcher Omir Santos to the Clippers.
