Indians aim for American League pennant on anniversary of Cavs' championship win
Exactly four months ago today, on June 19, 2016, the Cleveland Cavaliers won the NBA Finals and brought Cleveland its first major professional-sports championship since 1964.
Today, on October 19, 2016, the Cleveland Indians have a chance to win the American League pennant and advance to the World Series for the first time since 1997.
It's been a year of fascinating parallels between the two teams' title pursuits.
The Cavs' 2016 playoff run included sweeps of the Detroit Pistons and Atlanta Hawks and a 4-2 series win over the Toronto Raptors in the Eastern Conference Finals. Then, in late June and early July, the Indians embarked upon a 10-game road trip that took them through...Detroit (sweep), Atlanta (sweep), and, of course, Toronto.
It's only appropriate that the Toronto Blue Jays now stand between the Indians and the World Series, just like the Raptors served as the Cavs' final obstacle before reaching the Finals.
Today is October 19, and a really big event could happen in Cleveland sports.
