Indians acquire reliever Asencio from Braves for cash
The Cleveland Indians have acquired reliever Jairo Asencio from the Atlanta Braves for cash.
Asencio, 28, spent the 2010 season on the Braves' restricted list after the team discovered he had come to the U.S. as Luis Valdez and claimed to be three years younger. The Indians are familiar with such deception, since finding out that pitcher Fausto Carmona was actually Roberto Hernandez and three years older.
Asencio, who saved 26 saves last season at Triple-A Gwinnett. He is a candidate to get the final spot in Cleveland's bullpen.
