CLEVELAND -- Following Saturday's game, the Indians acquired pitcher Nick Maronde from the Angels for a player to be named later or cash. They also transferred Jason Giambi from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.

Maronde, 24, has appeared in 33 Major League games over the past three seasons. The left-hander has no record with a 7.13 ERA in 33 relief appearances. He has split time this season between the Angels and their Triple-A, Double-A and Arizona League affiliates before being designated for assignment this past Thursday.

Maronde, who was drafted in the third round by the Angels in 2011, has a career 13-8 record in the minors with a 3.23 ERA. He appeared in 90 games with 29 starts. Maronde was optioned to the minors after being acquired by the Indians but his affiliate assignment is to be determined.

Giambi was placed on the disabled list on June 12 due to left knee inflammation. He has had three stints on the DL this season and appeared in only 15 games. Giambi is batting .128 (6 for 47) with two home runs and five RBI.
