MUMBAI, India (AP) Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara put on 107 runs for the second wicket as India finished at 146-1 in 52 overs on day two of the fourth test in Mumbai. England lead by 254 runs.

At stumps, Vijay was unbeaten on 70 runs, while Pujara was batting on 47 not out.

After tea, the duo extended their partnership and added another 84 runs without losing a wicket in the evening session. England searched for wickets but the two batsmen didn't waver in their resistance.

Pujara survived an lbw appeal off Adil Rashid (0-49) soon after tea, as the DRS review stayed in the batsman's favour. Shortly afterwards, their 50-partnership came up off 98 balls.

India's 100-mark came up in the 35th over. Vijay continued to mix caution with aggression, and hit six fours and two sixes in all.

The opener brought up his 15th test half-century off 126 balls. The century partnership for the second wicket came up off 195 deliveries.

Pujara was the main aggressor in this stand, facing 102 deliveries in all, and hitting six boundaries. But he shut up shop before stumps and finished just short of his half-century.
