* A person familiar with the situation told the Associated Press that the Chicago Cubs were interviewing Tampa Bay Rays bench coach Dave Martinez for their manager's job. Martinez, who played for the Cubs in the 1980s, has spent the past six seasons as the Rays' bench coach. He could be a good fit with Chicago's management because Tampa Bay relies heavily on statistical analysis. Read More

* Tampa Bay Buccaneers reserve running back Jeff Demps had surgery Thursday for a groin injury, and there's no timetable for his return. Bucs coach Greg Schiano made the announcement less than a week after the injury sidelined the track star following two catches for 13 yards in a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday at Raymond James Stadium.
