* The Miami-Dade Police Department says it will discipline the officer who provided a police escort to Miami Heat star LeBron James to the Justin Timberlake/Jay Z concert. In a statement released Thursday, the department says it has chosen to give the officer "informal counseling" after investigating the escort involving the athlete. The statement says no further action will be taken. It does not identify the officer. Read More
* Miami Dolphins first-round draft pick Dion Jordan said Thursday "it wouldn't be a surprise" if he were not ready for the regular-season opener at Cleveland. Jordan, an edge rusher from Oregon and the third overall pick in April's draft, has been hampered by a right shoulder injury. He did not take part in full-contact drills this week and last played against Jacksonville in Miami's second preseason game. Read More

* Six University of Florida football players were named to the Coaches' Preseason All-SEC Teams, as announced by the Southeastern Conference office on Thursday. Including ties, the Gators rank fourth in the league with the number of players listed. Ronald Powell was named to the list twice, making Florida one of three schools to have a single player listed multiple times. Read More
* The Miami basketball team will play host to the three ACC newcomers - Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Notre Dame - as part of the 2013-14 conference schedule that was announced on Thursday. Read More
* Florida State will play host to Notre Dame, North Carolina, Miami and Syracuse in the 2013-14 season. The Seminoles will open against Jacksonville University, and hit the road to face Central Florida and Florida. Read More
* Jon Bostic's hard-hitting style is already a hot topic in the NFL. The NFL fined Bostic $21,000 Wednesday for his hit on San Diego receiver Mike Willie in a preseason game last week. Adding to the surprise Wednesday is that officials did not flag Bostic during the game. The fine drew instant criticism from fans, media commentators and Bostic's Chicago teammates. Read More
