LOS ANGELES ---When Robert Woods got the call on Monday night, he immediately had to stop what he was doing.
He was in the middle of a Twitter war of words with UCLA freshman defensive back Randall Goforth. Or so he thought.
Apparently Goforth's Twitter account was hacked and sent out a tweet directed to Woods saying "We will beat you guys on November 17th. Believe the hype."
That tweet drew the ire of Woods. Eventually Marqise Lee chimed in as did plenty of USC and UCLA fans. The back and forth between the players lasted close to two hours before Woods issued a final tweet: "No more tweets for me lol got that (call)."
The call came from head coach Lane Kiffin telling his star wide receiver to get off of Twitter.
Kiffin had just ended a conversation with UCLA head coach Jim Mora, who told him about the Twitter spat.
"I give Jim Mora credit. Jim called me last night," Kiffin said. "I didn't know anything about it, I was just working.
"A player had come to them to say somebody had hacked into their account or was posing as them so I immediately called Marqise and Robert to make sure that they knew that."
Across town, Goforth denies having a Twitter account and says he was in a tutoring session during the time of the Twitter feud.
"Some of my teammates just told me like, 'Bro, you're all over Twitter ramming at USC,'" Goforth said. "And I was like, 'Me? Nah, no way.'
"My coaches took care of it, people took care of it, and I just brushed it off. It's cool."
It's not cool to Mora, who took offense to the impostor.
"I think it's a fricken joke that somebody would do that," Mora said. "I think you're the lowest form of life form if you would portray yourself as an 18-year-old young man who's out here trying to do his best, trying to stir it up like that, attributing comments to him that aren't his - I think he ought to go to jail. That's how I feel. I think you're a scumbag.
"(The) power of social media is amazing and when it's used in a negative way like that, it's sickening."
A much calmer Woods talked about the situation on Tuesday. He says he knows he shouldn't have responded to the tweet but the fact that it was from an alleged UCLA player made it a little bit tougher.
"It's UCLA," Woods said. "It's a big rivalry but right now, this week, we're looking at ASU so we just gotta let that one go."
The annual rivalry game between the Los Angeles Pac-12 schools is still a week away. The No. 18 Bruins will travel to Washington State, while it'll be Homecoming for No. 19 USC when they welcome Arizona State to the Coliseum on Saturday.
USC and UCLA will meet at the Rose Bowl on Nov. 17.
