MONACO (AP) The son of IAAF President Lamine Diack is suspending his work as a marketing consultant for the athletics body pending the investigation into allegations of widespread doping in Russia.

The International Association of Athletics Federations says Papa Massata Diack notified the body that he ''will suspend his activities on behalf of the IAAF until the commission has delivered its final report'' in the doping probe.

The move was announced Thursday, a day after IAAF treasurer and council member Valentin Balakhnichev relieved himself of his duties while the investigation by the IAAF ethics commission is continuing. He is also head of the Russian athletics federation.

The IAAF says it ''appreciates'' Balakhnichev's decision.

Papa Massata Diack and Balakhnichev were implicated by German TV network ARD in accusations of covering up positive tests in Russia.
