CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand (AP) The Wellington-based Hurricanes staked an unlikely claim to first place in Super Rugby's New Zealand conference by taking a bonus point from a 35-10 win at the Crusaders on Saturday in their final match of the regular season.
The Hurricanes began the day fourth in the conference but the bonus point from the five-tries-to-one win lifted them into first place, two points ahead of the Chiefs who play the Highlanders later Saturday.
Few had given the Hurricanes a chance of winning, let alone of lifting a bonus point on the Crusaders' home ground, but they displayed a ruthless streak in a dominant second half.
