Historic short track, set to be demolished, gets another 6 months
As announced last March, Irwindale Speedway will be demolished when an outlet mall is built on the Southern California property later this year.
There is a bit of good news, however, for the historic motorsports facility in the short-term.
According to the Pasadena Star-News, Irwindale -- which features two short tracks, a drag strip, 6,000 seats, paved parking for more than 3,000 cars, and 12 corporate suites -- will be around for longer than originally expected.
The newspaper reports that Irwindale officials say the facility, which is located less than 25 minutes from downtown Los Angeles, will remain open for business through at least July.
Indeed, the track's website shows a full slate of events scheduled over the next six months. So at least for now, Irwindale lives on.
