Heat hold scrimmage to prep for preseason opener
MIAMI -- The Miami Heat took the AmericanAirlines Arena court Sunday evening for the first time since winning Game 7 of the NBA Finals in June.
The defending champs held a Red & White intrasquad scrimmage before about 11,289 fans. Miami will begin its preseason schedule at home Monday night against the Atlanta Hawks.
Chris Bosh scored a scrimmage-high 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting and had 10 rebounds. LeBron James made 1 field goal on 8 shots. Dwyane Wade hit 2 of 7 from the floor and had 5 points.
James Jones scored 15 points, including 12 in the first quarter, when he hit 4 of 5 from behind the arc. Norris Cole added 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting.
Free-agent center Greg Oden, who hasn't played since December 2009 because of chronic knee problems, and forward Udonis Haslem, who had a torn meniscus repaired during the offseason, did not play.
Forward Chris "Birdman" Andersen, free-agent forward Michael Beasley and guard Roger Mason Jr. also did not play.
Score during the scrimmage was kept on a quarter-by-quarter basis as some players spent time with both teams.
Coach Erik Spoelstra and assistant coach Ron Rothstein watched courtside next to the Red team's bench as assistants David Fizdale and Bob McAdoo coached the Red team, and Dan Craig and Juwan Howard led the White.
Team president Pat Riley and general manager Andy Elisburg watched courtside opposite from the teams' benches.
