The Miami Heat traded center/forward Joel Anthony and two future draft picks to the Boston Celtics as part of a three-team deal, the team announced Wednesday afternoon.
The Heat will receive guard Toney Douglas from Golden State. Boston is sending MarShon Brooks and Jordan Crawford to the Warriors.
"It's always difficult trading a player like Joel who was a big part of the past two championship teams and will always be a part of the Miami Heat family," Heat President Pat Riley said in a release. "This trade gives us great flexibility moving forward in our journey to win an NBA championship. Joel was a true professional who worked hard every day and we wish him the best in the future."
Miami will save nearly $10 million in salary and luxury tax with the unloading of Anthony's contract, worth $3.8 million this season with a player option for next season.
Douglas, in his fifth season from Florida State, earns $1.6 million in the last year of his contract. He averaged 3.7 points in 24 games with Golden State this season.
Anthony started 51 times in 2011-12, but has been a non-factor the past two seasons. He played a total of 37 minutes (12 games) this season.
