Hawks' Scott has sprained, not fractured toe; could return before playoffs
The Hawks received positive news with the toe of forward Mike Scott, who could be back sooner than expected.
In a statement released Friday, the team announced that Scott received a CT scan during a follow-up examination that revealed he has a bipartite sesamoid and acute sprain to his great toe instead of a fracture. That drops an expected four-to-six weeks recovery time to two-to-four weeks.
"The health and care of all of our players is extremely important to us and Mike is a big part of our group," coach Mike Budenholzer said in the statement.
"We conducted additional testing and also recommended that Mike get an independent second opinion. We are pleased with the additional opinion and information and look forward to having Mike back when he completes his rehabilitation."
Scott suffered the injury during Atlanta's March 11 loss to the Nuggets.
On the low end of the recovery period the Hawks, who have a 10-game lead in the Eastern Conference, could have Scott back before the start of the playoffs.
In his third year with the Hawks, Scott is averaging 7.5 points and 2.7 rebounds, along with a career-best 1.0 assists in 15.8 minutes a night.
