Haters unite: Many dismayed Coldplay will lead Super Bowl 50 halftime show
It’s impossible to please everyone and never worth trying. That said ... Coldplay as the Super Bowl 50 halftime headline performer?!
Obligatory: Coldplay is an extremely popular and commercially successful band. The British alternative/piano rock band has sold more than 80 million records worldwide. Everyone has different taste.
But to borrow a line from “Zoolander,” Taylor Swift is so hot right now she could take a crap, wrap it in tinfoil, put a couple fish hooks on it and sell it to Queen Elizabeth as earrings.
Following Katy Perry (featuring Left Shark) and Bruno Mars’ exciting, uplifting, well-received performances, it just feels like an odd choice given the band’s collection of sad, downtrodden songs (for example, "Yellow," "Trouble” and "Death and All His Friends”). Has a stadium deejay ever played a Coldplay song to pump up a crowd?
It’s fashionable to hate on Coldplay. I get it. That said, the NFL had much more appealing choices, beginning with Swift. At halftime in February, I will be watching the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet.
