Has Jerry Jones lost hope? Owner not sure Dallas could have hung with 49ers
After turning the ball over four times in the first half Sunday and allowing San Francisco to score 28 points, it appeared the Dallas Cowboys buckled down in the second half and played well.
The 49ers went scoreless in the second half as the Cowboys held them to only seven first downs and 116 total yards.
Does that mean the Cowboys would've gone blow-for-blow with San Francisco had it not been for those costly early turnovers?
"Not necessarily," Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Tuesday on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM]. "I think it's probably a little dangerous, and Jason [Garrett] pointed this out to his staff: Let's not just make this about those turnovers, because there was more here to look at where we did some good things about and then there was some there where we didn't do good things about. I don't have it as a given that the turnovers were the difference in the game. I'm not being negative. I think we would've been right there, but San Francisco plays that game different in the second half if they don't have that big lead."
The 49ers led 28-3 at halftime and coasted to a 28-17 Week 1 victory.
"We needed turnovers and they coached it smart in the second half," Jones said. "They weren't going to give you turnovers, which was the only way that we probably had a chance to come back and beat them. That's called winning the football game when you got a lead."
