Guitar-shaped scoreboard coming to Nashville minor-league park

Country music has been Nashville's claim to fame for decades.

And the city's minor-league baseball team, the Nashville Sounds, plans to continue celebrating that legacy with an updated version of one of their old home's most eye-catching features when they move to their brand new ballpark.

First Tennessee Park is currently under construction and scheduled to open in April 2015. Renderings of the ballpark reveal plans to include a unique guitar-shaped high-definition scoreboard in the outfield.

The feature is an updated model of the one the Sounds currently feature at Greer Stadium.

The Sounds, the Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, released a graphic of the video board on Friday, featuring former star and Brewers outfielder Logan Schafer:

The city of Nashville is fronting approximately $65 million for the new stadium, while naming rights were sold to First Tennessee Bank for an undisclosed amount. The stadium is located on the historic site of Sulpher Dell -- so named by legendary sports writer Grantland Rice in the early 1900s; players like Hall of Famers Babe Ruth and Kiki Cuyler once played there before the old park was demolished in 1969. Unfortunately, the new ballpark will not feature "the craziest right field in history," where the base of the outfield wall sat 25 feet higher than home plate, or the site's namesake on the sign.

Still, at least bringing some of the past with them into the future is a good move for the Sounds.

"This is something the city is looking forward to," Nashville mayor Karl Dean said. "Today's announcement is another great milestone for our new ballpark."
