An already banged-up University of Minnesota football team suffered more injuries in Saturday's loss at Nebraska. Among the injured is redshirt junior linebacker Brendan Beal, who hurt his knee and will have an MRI late Tuesday.
Beal has a history of knee injuries. He originally enrolled at Florida but never played for the Gators due to a torn ACL. After transferring to Minnesota and sitting out the 2010 season in accordance with NCAA rules, Beal again injured his knee against the Huskers on Saturday.
"I talked with him after the game. We sat there and I put my arm around him and we talked," Kill said of Beal. "I said, ‘I feel bad for you. I wish I could give you my knee, but mine aren't any good, either.' We just talked and visited. … It's tough. He's a persistent young man, and we hope for the best."
Kill also said junior defensive tackle Roland Johnson has an ACL injury that took place during the team's walk-through prior to the game against Nebraska.
"That tells you how tough a situation you have sometimes," Kill said. "You get hurt in a walk-through, tear a knee up in a walk-through, it's not a good day, not a good week."
Meanwhile, offensive lineman Marek Lenkiewicz (knee) won't practice Tuesday and is questionable for Saturday, Kill said. Left tackle Ed Olson will practice Tuesday.
