A long streak ended in Minnesota’s net, and its losing streak continued, as the No. 7 Gophers fell 4-1 to No. 15 Ohio State on the road.
Sophomore goaltender Mat Robson, a native of Toronto, made his Gophers debut against the Buckeyes. Eric Schierhorn had started 94 straight games between the pipes for the maroon and gold, but the junior sat Saturday’s game out. His streak goes down as the fourth longest in NCAA history.
The Buckeyes struck first -- 17 minutes into the opening period. Brent Gates Jr. tied it in the second period for the Gophers, but Ohio State had the last laugh, scoring on Robson to take a 2-1 lead with just five minutes to play.
A pair of empty-net goals topped off Ohio State’s fifth win in the Big Ten.
With Friday’s defeat in overtime, Minnesota has now lost four of its last five games and hasn’t picked up a road win since slipping past rival North Dakota 2-1 on Oct. 20.
Robson stopped 13 shots in the first period alone and finished the evening with 22 saves. Minnesota outshot the Buckeyes 34-26.

Minnesota (10-9-1 overall, 4-7-1-1 Big Ten) has time off before hosting Army West Point in a weekend series Dec. 29-30. After that, it’s a road series in early January against the No. 2 St. Cloud State Huskies, who have yet to lose a game at home this season.
