Gophers football makes schedule changes
MINNEAPOLIS — The University of Minnesota football team announced a few changes to its future schedules Tuesday.
The Gophers were originally scheduled to play at Miami (Ohio) on Sept. 6, 2014, but that game has been pushed back to 2016 at the request of the RedHawks. Those two teams will now play on Sept. 17, 2016.
To fill the spot of the originally scheduled game in 2014, the Gophers will now host Middle Tennessee State at TCF Bank Stadium. That change means Minnesota will open 2014 with four consecutive home games.
The Gophers and MTSU faced each other in the 2010 season opener, with Minnesota winning, 24-17, on the road. Those schools will also play during the 2017 season in Minneapolis.
Moving the Miami (Ohio) game to 2016 means that the Gophers' nonconference schedule is set for that season. They will also play New Mexico State, Indiana State and Colorado State before the Big Ten season begins.
