Goalie Weaver earns Big Sky recognition
Junior Lauren Weaver garnered her first Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week award of the 2012 season for matches played from Oct. 2-8. Weaver earned the weekly award twice during the 2011 season. She is the second Lumberjack to receive Defensive Player of the Week honors this season, following sophomore Diane Buzzard.
Weaver recorded two shutouts over the weekend and helped the Lumberjacks notch a pair of 0-0 double overtime ties with Portland State and Sacramento State. She made a total of 22 saves in the two games and kept both of the Lumberjack opponents off the scoreboard despite NAU being outshot by a combined 40-23 margin. She became just the sixth goalkeeper in school history to record at least 12 saves in a game. Weaver also moved into fourth all-time in school history in saves with 201 for her career.
Over her last seven games dating back to the Florida Gulf Coast match on Sept. 14, Weaver has lowered her goals against average from 2.10 to 0.85 and upped her save percentage from .773 to .890. In conference play, Weaver has allowed just two goals in her last five games. Against conference opponents, she has a 0.37 goals against average, a .956 save percentage and 43 saves while posting four shutouts in five conference matches.
Weaver is first in the Big Sky in save percentage, second in goals against average and third in saves.
The Lumberjacks (4-6-4, 2-1-2 Big Sky) will head out for their final road trip of the regular season this weekend beginning with their first trip to Grand Forks, N.D. to take on new Big Sky member North Dakota (2-9-1, 0-5) on Friday at 1 p.m. The road trip concludes on Sunday at Northern Colorado (5-5-3, 3-1-1).
