Glazer: Josh Freeman to start for Vikings sooner rather than later

By Ross Jones, FOXSports.comChristian Ponder’s days as the Vikings starting quarterback appear to be coming to a close. While Ponder has been cleared to return from a rib injury, he didn’t get the start against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Also, FOX NFL Sunday Jay Glazer reports that the Vikings are hoping quarterback Josh Freeman takes the job in the coming weeks. "When [Leslie Frazier] brought in Josh Freeman last week, right before he signed, he told Josh, ‘Look Christian Ponder cannot lose the job to injury.’ That has changed,” Glazer said. “They brought him in to be the starter. He’s deactivated today. “The plan is for him to not play today but perhaps the week after that." Ponder has played below average in his three starts and earlier this week admitted the current QB situation has been difficult to deal with. "Some of the dynamics of this organization have changed obviously with bringing in Josh [Freeman]," Ponder said via ESPN 1500. "I would be lying if I didn't say it was a little bit disappointing and frustrating." Freeman was signed to a one-year deal last week and it would likely behoove the Vikings from paying him, but not playing him. The Vikings play at the Giants in Week 7 and host the Packers in Week 8.
