Glazer: Josh Freeman looking to pick team by Sunday night
By Ross Jones, FOXSports.com Josh Freeman won’t be a free agent for much longer. The fifth-year quarterback is looking to make a decision as soon as possible, NFL insider Jay Glazer said on the FOX NFL Sunday show. Freeman has been fielding multiple offers since being released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday. “I talked to Josh [Freeman] Saturday night and he said he wants to make a decision on [Sunday] night,” Glazer said. Freeman’s two frontrunners are the Oakland Raiders and the Minnesota Vikings. Freeman spent some time on the phone with head coach Dennis Allen Friday night and is intrigued by the opportunity to play right away, according to Glazer. Although the Vikings have two high-priced quarterbacks on their roster in Christian Ponder and Matt Cassel, general manager Rick Spielman and head coach Leslie Frazier have been in discussions with Freeman. Other notable teams that have shown interest are the Bills and 49ers. Bills rookie quarterback EJ Manuel sprained his LCL in his right knee Thursday night against the Browns and will likely miss a few weeks. According to Glazer, Freeman acknowledged that he would likely be designated to a backup role once Manuel returns. The 49ers have also inquired about Freeman and Glazer said that they have “gone after him the hardest” for a backup role behind Colin Kaepernick.
