Gilbreath named WAC's top newcomer
New Mexico State senior guard Stefanie Gilbreath was named Newcomer of the Year and received second team All-Western Athletic Conference, based on voting of the WAC's 10 women's basketball head coaches.
Galbreath, a senior transfer from USC, finished third in the conference in scoring average (17.4) and scored in double figures in each of the Aggies' 18 WAC games.
Next up for the Aggies (14-15, 7-11 WAC) is the conference tournament. Their first-round game is Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. against UT Arlington (7-22, 4-14) at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The two teams split their regular season meetings, with the Aggies posting a 72-66 victory on the road in the regular-season finale on Saturday, March 9.
New Mexico State enters the postseason on a roll, having won five of its last six games.
