Facts & Info: Vick was selected in the 11th round of the 2012 Draft out of Baylor University (TX). He is a former Texas high school all-state kicker in football. Last season he ranked 3rd in the Midwest League in walks (81) and was 1st in on-base percentage (.413).
The Offense: Vick is a top of the lineup prospect who has a very advanced, consistent approach at the plate that results in a high on-base rate. He is a solid hitter who uses the whole field, and he has good hand-eye coordination and a good eye for the zone that really help him put together some great professional at bats. He only has below average power, but he has some strength in his compact frame to drive the ball into the gaps and flash some home run pop.
The Defense: Vick plays a solid center field and has an average arm, and his strength defensively is his versatility to play all three outfield positions and potentially even some second base or third base in the future.
The Intangibles: Vick has a mature, athletic build and strong lower half, and is just a tough, high energy player. He makes up for his lack of power by stealing bases and taking extra bases on hits. He is a hard worker who puts in the effort every day to improve and sets a really good example for the players around him.
The Focus: The biggest question mark with Vick continues to be where he fits on the diamond as an everyday player. His defense in center field does not grade out well enough to be a frontend prospect there, and his lack of power limits him as a frontend prospect at a corner outfield positions -- thus why he is ultimately viewed as having a Major League future as a potential fourth outfielder.
The Future: If Vick can develop some consistency with his swing and he makes some strides defensively, he could firmly establish himself as a legit Major League prospect for the Indians. The Indians have likened him to a Sam Fuld kind of Major League player with the potential to be more depending on how he develops over the next few years. The Indians will continue to give him opportunities to play every day as he moves through the lower levels of the minors, but he is going to need to continue to show near elite on-base ability to keep getting those every day at bats.
