Georgia Southern rolls over The Citadel 84-53

STATESBORO, Ga. (AP) Jelani Hewitt scored 22 points to lead hot-shooting Georgia Southern to an 84-53 win over The Citadel on Thursday.

Hewitt hit 8 of 10 shots, including 4 of 6 3-pointers, as the Eagles (10-12, 3-4 Southern League) shot 54 percent from the field, 50 percent behind the arc (11-22).

Curtis Diamond came off the bench to add 13 on 5 of 8 shooting with three 3's. Tre Bussey had 12 points and Brian Holmes 11.

The Bulldogs (4-19, 0-8) shot just 35 percent, making 1 of 13 3's in dropping their 11th straight game. Ashton Moore had 14 points.

The Citadel scored the first six points but the Eagles followed with 29-0 run. Hewitt had 8 points in the game-breaking run. It was 38-17 at the half

Hewitt hit a 3 5 minutes into the second half to start a 14-0 run with Hewitt getting 7 to make it 62-26.
