Georgia RB Todd Gurley suspended indefinitely
Georgia junior running back Todd Gurley, one of the early favorites in the Heisman Trophy race, has been suspended indefinitely during an ongoing investigation for allegedly violating NCAA rules, the school announced on Thursday.
FOX Sports college football insider Bruce Feldman reports the investigation is looking into whether the star running back accepted extra benefits for autographs or the use of his likeness.
"I'm obviously very disappointed," Georgia coach Mark Richt said in a statement. "The important thing for our team is to turn all our attention toward preparation for Missouri."
Gurley has rushed for 773 yards and eight touchdowns through his first five games this season, including four games of 130 or more rushing yards. He also added a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the season-opening win over then-No. 16 Clemson for the 4-1 Bulldogs. Only Wisconsin's Melvin Gordon and Indiana's Tevin Coleman have averaged more yards per game on the ground this season.
As recently as this week, Gurley was Vegas's odds-on favorite to win the Heisman Trophy.
Georgia is locked in a tight division race in the SEC East, heading on the road to face Missouri, which is undefeated in conference play, this Saturday ... now without one of the best running backs in the country.
