Gemologist, Alpha set for Wood Memorial

Unbeaten Gemologist has been made the 8-5 early favorite in a field of eight entered for the $1 million Wood Memorial at Aqueduct Racetrack.

The 1-1/8-mile race Saturday is New York's major prep race before the Kentucky Derby on May 5.

Also entered Wednesday were Alpha, Casual Trick, My Adonis, Teeth of the Dog, Street Life, Tiger Walk and The Lumber Guy. Alpha is the 5-2 second choice.

Gemologist is 4 for 4 for trainer Todd Pletcher. The 3-year-old colt won the Kentucky Jockey Club last year and won an allowance race by seven lengths March 16 in his only race this year.

Gemologist leaves from the No. 6 post and will be ridden by Javier Castellano. Alpha has the No. 1 post and will be ridden by Ramon Dominguez.
