Frosty Margarita wins NY Stallion Stakes at Aqueduct
NEW YORK (AP) Frosty Margarita beat favored Behrnik's Bank by a neck Sunday in the $147,000 New York Stallion Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at Aqueduct.
The Behrnik's Bank had gone 2 for 2 at Penn National, winning by a combined 31 1/2 lengths. She was bet down to 1-5 and, as expected, set the pace.
Frosty Margarita never let her shake loose, sitting second to the leader before getting up in the final strides for her third win in six starts.
Irad Ortiz Jr. had the mount for trainer Rudy Rodriguez as the 5/2 second choice ran the six furlongs in 1:12.24 on the fast track.
''We were concerned about the favorite, that's for sure, but Irad seemed very comfortable,'' Rodriguez said. ''She ran very good today and hopefully she will keep improving a little bit and go to the next level.''
Frosty Margarita paid $7.30, $2.30 and $2.10.
Behrnik's Bank returned $2.10 and $2.10, and Taken By Surprise paid $2.70 to show.
