Friday night's suspended game quickly wrapped up as White Sox sneak past Royals
CHICAGO -- It took 39 hours to restart the game, but the White Sox ended it in 20 minutes on Sunday.
Chicago's Avisail Garcia singled to center in the bottom of the ninth inning, lifting the White Sox to a 3-2 win over Kansas City in the resumption of Friday night's suspended game. Garcia poked a base hit off Kelvin Herrera that scored Melky Cabrera and gave Chicago its first win of the season over the Royals.
The Royals went scoreless in the top of the ninth inning, striking out three times against closer David Robertson. In the bottom half of the frame, Herrera retired the first two White Sox.
But then he walked Cabrera and threw a pitch to the backstop that allowed him to advance to second. Herrera intentionally walked Jose Abreu to get to Garcia, who ended the game.
The teams play their regularly scheduled game at 2:05 p.m.
