Freshman LaBate lifts Wisconsin hockey to win
MADISON -- Freshman Joseph LaBate lit the lamp at the 15:57 mark of the third period Saturday, helping to propel his Wisconsin men's hockey squad past Alaska Anchorage, 3-2, in WCHA action.
LaBate was one of three Badgers to post two points on the night. He was joined in that exclusive group by teammates Justin Schultz and Mark Zengerle. Schultz and Zengerle, coincidentally, teamed to assist on LaBate's game-winning goal.
Between the pipes, Wisconsin netminder Joel Rumpel recorded 25 saves to earn the win and send his squad to a 7-9-2 mark in WCHA action.
With its win, Wisconsin improved to 12-10-2 overall on the year, to the delight of an announced crowd of 13,713 at the Kohl Center.
Alaska Anchorage (6-14-2) got goals from Austin Coldwell and Curtis Leinweber in a losing effort.
