Freeman, Kirkman, Middlebrooks leave Brewers organization, elect free agency

Three players who appeared with the Milwaukee Brewers this season have elected to become free agents: third baseman Will Middlebrooks and left-handed pitchers Sam Freeman and Michael Kirkman. All three players had been removed from Milwaukee's 40-man roster.
Middlebrooks battled injuries this season and primarily played at Triple-A Colorado Springs. In 10 games with Milwaukee, Middlebrooks was just 3 for 27 (.111) with no extra-base hits and 13 strikeouts. He batted .282 with a .508 slugging percentage in 68 games with the SkySox.
Freeman, who was purchased from Texas on April 5, appeared in seven games with the Brewers, allowing 11 runs in 7 2/3 innings. In 30 games at Colorado Springs, Freeman had a 5.20 ERA in 55 1/3 innings.
Kirkman was claimed off waivers from San Diego in May, but appeared in just one game with Milwaukee, allowing one run in one inning. He had a 2.81 ERA in 32 innings with Colorado Springs.
