Francona sees Bauer's rough start as only a bump in the road
It wasn't the greatest of outings for Trevor Bauer Monday as he surrendered seven hits and seven runs (six earned) in a 8-3 loss to the Angels. But manager Terry Francona sees it as only a bump in the road.
"The last thing we're going to do is bail on him," said Francona to reporters on Tuesday before the Indians face the Diamondbacks. "We're going to continue to fight through it, work through it and communicate through it to where he is going to be a finished product. He's worked real hard to get his delivery. Now we have to work on command of his fastball."
In four outings and seven innings of work, Bauer has given up nine runs with eight being earned. He is considered to be in the mix for the final spot in the rotation, but it is looking more likely that he could start the year in Triple-A Columbus.
