FOX survivor football picks for Week 14
Survive and advance is a popular sports mantra normally saved for the month of March and the madness that comes with it.
But thanks to the rapid growth of the NFL and fantasy football, games like FOX Fantasy Survivor can feed your craving for “win or go home” competition seven months early.
Thousands of football fans signed up and participated in the FOX Fantasy Survivor game last season. The hope is, with cash prizes on the line, we can eclipse that mark in 2011.
The premise is simple: pick one (1) team who you believe is going to win that week. The survivor catch remains that once you pick a team to win, you can’t pick that team again for the rest of the season. The good news is, even if you lose, you are still eligible to win cash prizes.
To assist you with your survivor selections, the FOXSports.com’s fantasy football staff will provide you their picks for the week.
Just remember the mantra: survive and advance. In a month, you could be $2,000 richer.
Week 13 Recap
The New England Patriots broke out their best LeBron James impersonation against the Colts. That is to say they completely checked out in the fourth quarter.
Hey-ohhhh!
Even Tom Brady said after the game that his team played well for 45 minutes and then didn’t do anything offensively. The “Hoodie” probably brought up the fourth-quarter funk in practice this week as the Pats prepared for the Redskins. If Dan Orlovsky can rack up 353 passing yards against New England’s secondary, Grossman could be in store for a big game in Week 14.
Despite the sluggish conclusion, Harmon, Halpin and Fowler survived the scare.
With the Pats already off his board, Beall went with the NFC leading 49ers. With no Sam Bradford and a banged up offensive line blocking for Steven Jackson, the Rams had no shot. San Francisco locked up the division title with the win and Beall survived and advance.
Week 14 Picks
Harmon, Halpin and Fowler – Seahawks
When it comes to this Monday night tilt, there is good news and bad news. The problem for the Rams is all their news falls under bad. Sam Bradford is still nursing a bum ankle, A.J. Feeley broke this thumb against the Niners leaving practice squad quarterback Tom Brandstater to take first team reps this week.
This will also hinder the impact of Steven Jackson, who has struggled as of late to bust big runs with a fragile offensive line. S-Jax has 125 rushing yards combined in his last three games.
As for Seattle, Marshawn Lynch has now scored in eight straight games. He should thrive against a St. Louis rush defense that ranks dead last in the NFL. One concern for Lynch and the Seahawks is the season-ending injury to Russel Okung on the line.
Beall - Broncos
Caleb Hanie and Marion Barber versus an improved defense that has allowed 13 or fewer points in three out of their last four games? Hmmm, the Broncos look good.
See how easy that was? An entire sentence crafted and Tim Tebow’s name was not brought up once.
Hanie is completing fewer than 50 percent of his passes and without top offensive threat Matt Forte, the Bears bid to reach the postseason is in jeopardy.
Lost in Tebowmania is the consistency of Willis McGahee when healthy. He’s rushed for over 100 yards in six out of eight games when carrying the ball at least 15 times.
