Former captain Heath Streak appointed head coach of Zimbabwe
HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) Zimbabwe has appointed former captain Heath Streak as its new head coach after Dav Whatmore was fired in June.
Currently the bowling coach of the Gujarat Lions in the Indian Premier League, Streak's last international job was as bowling coach of Bangladesh, having previously held the same position with Zimbabwe.
''I think work ethics is the first think I will prioritize,'' the 42-year-old Streak told The Associated Press.
''We need to get guys into the right mindset. Obviously, I will try to use the experience I have gained as a coach in Bangladesh, here in Zimbabwe and the IPL.''
Former South Africa bowler Makhaya Ntini has been Zimbabwe's caretaker coach since Whatmore's sacking.
Ntini will revert to his initial role as bowling coach.
Streak's first duties will be a two-match home test series with Sri Lanka at the end of this month, and then a one-day triangular series also involving West Indies.
