Former Big 12 star Devonte Fields headed to Louisville

The 2012 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year is headed to Louisville.

Former TCU defensive end Devonte Fields, who spent 2014 at Trinity Valley Community College after being dismissed from TCU before the season, committed to Louisville during a visit over the weekend and plans to sign with the Cardinals on National Signing Day on Wednesday.

Fields posted the news on social media on Sunday and a source confirmed Fields' plans with FOX Sports Southwest.

As a true freshman in 2012, Fields made 18.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks and was named the Big 12's top defender. In 2013, a foot injury and a suspension limited him to just three appearances.

In July 2014, Fields was dismissed from the university after allegations he had assaulted his ex-girlfriend.

Fields, a Fort Worth, Texas native and Arlington Martin alum, originally planned to transfer to Stephen F. Austin, but was ruled ineligible and enrolled in junior college.
