Former Arizona QB Brewer passes on NAU to play for Virginia
Former Arizona quarterback Connor Brewer, who was expected to transfer to Northern Arizona and compete for its starting quarterback job, instead plans to transfer to Virginia, as first reported by 247Sports.com.
Because Brewer graduated from Arizona, he is eligible to play for Virginia immediately. He has two seasons of eligibility and is expected to compete with Matt Johns for the Cavaliers' starting job.
"I just got off the phone with coach (Mike) London and committed to Virginia," Brewer told 247sports.com. "Obviously I love the coaching staff there. They run a great pro-style offense. They can help me be really successful. It's a good opportunity to compete for the job and be the guy and win some games for them. Virginia is a great program. I want to help them get it back to where it used to be. Plus it's a great place academically."
Brewer originally signed with Texas after starring a Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, then transferred to Arizona after one season. He redshirted for one season at Arizona, was beaten out for the starting quarterback job by Anu Solomon, fell behind two others on the depth chart and announced his plans to transfer to Northern Arizona prior to the spring semester.
