A foal of undefeated racehorse Frankel was sold along with its mother, Crystal Gaze, for $1.96 million in an auction at Kensington Palace on Monday.

The colt is the first offspring of the late Henry Cecil's undefeated champion to come under the hammer. Crystal Gaze is expecting a second foal by Frankel next year.

Both horses were bought by M.V. Magnier, the son of Coolmore Stud owner John Magnier, who said he was acting on behalf of a four-person partnership.

Seller Tweenhills Stud is owned and managed by David Redvers, who says ''it's a bit sad to see the whole package go, as the mare is a sweetheart.''

The sale was held in association with Sheik Fahad's Qipco Holding.
