Flyers pick up first 2014 hoops recruit
The University of Dayton picked up its first verbal commitment from the senior class over the weekend. Darrell Davis, a three-star combo guard from Detroit Frederick Douglass High School picked the Flyers over the weekend.
The 6-4, 170-pounder also had offers from Michigan State, Iowa, Iowa State, Kent State and Rhode Island according to Scout.com.
Brian Snow, a FOXSports.com/Scout basketball recruiting analyst, said Davis is a very good pickup for the Flyers.
"He is a guard who can really score. Darrell has good size, is a good athlete, and has long arms," Snow said. "He is at his best attacking the rim and making plays that way. I see him more a scorer who can be a secondary point guard, though some like his potential at the point guard position."
Davis told the Dayton Daily News he chose UD over the Spartans because he felt like a higher priority recruit for Flyers head coach Archie Miller and his staff.
"Basically, I felt I was a third option," he told the paper regarding MSU. "If they didn’t get one player they wanted, they’d come to get me. I never felt like I was their No. 1 guy.
“The Dayton coaches called every day. They blew my phone up. They texted me a lot. I could tell they loved me.”
