GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Florida coach Urban Meyer says freshman safety Jonathan Dowling is no longer on the team because of a rules violation.

Meyer says Dowling has no chance of returning, either. It's unclear what Dowling did to get dismissed.

The 6-foot-3, 184-pound Dowling played in two games this season. He did not even dress the last three games.

Dowling was considered one of the top defensive back prospects in the country last year. He had 58 tackles, 14 interceptions and three blocked punts as a senior at Bradenton's Southeast High.

He's the third player, and second safety, gone from Florida's highly regarded freshman class. Receiver Adrian Coxson and safety Jordan Haden left Gainesville before the season. Coxson enrolled at Maryland.
