Flanagan credited with American record for Boston 10K run
BOSTON (AP) Shalane Flanagan's victory in the Boston Athletic Association 10K has been ratified as an American record.
USA Track & Field made it official Tuesday at its annual meeting.
Flanagan completed the 6.2-mile course through Boston's Back Bay this summer in 30 minutes, 52 seconds. That's 11 seconds faster than the U.S. record she set in The Netherlands the previous September and 12 seconds better than the course record that had been held by Ethiopia's Mamitu Daska in 2014.
For the record to be official, the course distance had to be verified and the results reviewed.
A four-time Olympian from nearby Marblehead, Massachusetts, Flanagan has finished in the top 10 at the Boston Marathon three times. Her time of 2 hours, 22 minutes, 2 seconds in 2014 is the fastest Boston Marathon run by an American woman.
