Feud Of The Week: Kyle Busch Vs. The Racing Gods
Kyle Busch surveys the damage after a rope from FOX's overhead camera snapped and damaged his No. 18 Toyota.
Kyle Busch has to be asking himself if he’s been cursed by the racing gods after a bizarre Coca-Cola 600 Sunday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway. First, his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Camry had its right-front fender ripped open by a piece of a FOX camera drive rope that fell to the track.
Although Busch’s crew was able to fix his car, and he went on to lead 65 laps, Busch finished 38th after the engine expired in his Toyota. “We had been running first, second or third most of the evening, but just catastrophic engine failure — it seems to be that time of year again,” Busch said. “I hate it for all my guys.”
Busch’s season started off well, but has taken a serious turn for the worst in recent weeks. In a five-race stretch from Las Vegas to Texas, Busch won two races, posting five top-five finishes and an average finish of 2.6.
But in his last five races, Busch has finished 37th or worse three times, with an average finish of 28.6. During that stretch he has fallen from second to 11th in points.
So right now, Busch has to be wondering, “Dude, WTH?”
Or maybe even something worse.
