FC Dallas player struck by fan throwing bottle
George John scored the game-winner for FC Dallas on Saturday night in Frisco, Texas but he didn't get much time to celebrate in front of the home crowd. After heading in the lone goal of a 1-0 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy, John was drilled in the back of the head by a metal beer bottle that was tossed from the stands.
The Dallas defender remained on the ground for several minutes before sitting up and revealing a gash behind his left ear. According to The Dallas Morning News, John received five staples to close the cut.
"It is always unacceptable to throw anything onto the field of play because it endangers the safety of all players and personnel," the FC Dallas franchise said in a statement. "In this specific incident, we have identified the individual and we are proceeding according to protocol with FC Dallas Stadium security, Frisco Police and Major League Soccer."
