Hudson Fasching's goal at the 5:22 mark of the third period broke a 2-all tie and lifted the Minnesota Gophers to a 3-2 win over the UConn Huskies in the opening round of the Mariucci Classic. Minnesota and UConn had never met on the ice before Friday night's contest.

The Gophers (8-8-0) will play Harvard, a 7-3 winner over Ferris State, in Saturday's championship game at 7 p.m.

Minnesota took a 2-1 lead in the second period on goals just 22 seconds apart from Michael Brodzinski and Tyler Cammarata.
